In many circles, sage is a sacred herb. There are many varieties of sage, including white sage, black sage, red root sage and garden sage. In modern times, garden sage (salvia officinalis) is mostly known as a culinary herb that is to be applied to the Thanksgiving turkey, most likely originating from sage’s ability to ease digestion. However, herbalists apply sage for a variety of ailments, including memory loss, as a mouthwash for treating canker sores, and as a steam for easing respiratory congestion and inflammation.
