Yarrow is one of the most versatile herbs for the apothecary, as the plant has healing effects on the digestive, skin, respiratory, and urinary systems. Although thought to be native to Europe and Asia, yarrow has naturalized in many areas throughout the United States and around the world. In Western cultures, yarrow was documented to be used by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, the former which was carried by soldiers into battle due to yarrow’s wound healing and antimicrobial effects. Yarrow is also said to carry spiritual properties of protection.
In Skincare
Yarrow is astringent, which cleanses and tightens pores, soothes irritated skin, is anti-acne, and balances skin moisture levels. It's also anti-inflammatory and diuretic, which is why I featured yarrow in Bloom & Skye's eye cream where puffiness and wrinkles are usually a concern.
